Food & Culture. The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.

Food & Culture

A cooking class that it is not simply a lesson about recipes and food processing but rather a path of language and history throughout the Italian culinary culture.

That’s how we would describe our cooking workshops which are part of the new project of Nomit: Italian.Lab – A brand new program of Italian language, culture, history and cooking classes.

The course is structured in four appointments weekly and linked to a different topic every month. We started with a topic related to a historical period in which Italy was not even known as Italy; instead it was a complex of different states and kingdoms.

The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was the largest of the Italian states before the Italian unification. It was formed as a union of the Kingdom of Sicily and the Kingdom of Naples , which collectively had been long called the “Two Sicilies“.

In four classes, we will walk through the recipes and the traditions that characterize this historic period.

You will discover una cucina (a cuisine) made of simple elements and healthy ingredients, while we emphasise the importance of no waste and the benefits of following food by season and what nature offers. The recipes are the basis of the Mediterranean diet and behind all of them there is a story that makes everything even more…appetizing!
